Programming Your Radio
There are four main ways to program your Analog Handheld, Mobile or Base VHF/UHF FM Radio
- Manually (via the radio’s pushbuttons, keypad, knobs and/or menus)
- Using Programming Software and a Radio<>Computer Interface Cable
- Using Programming Software or an online App and your radio’s Bluetooth Interface (a newer feature just starting to be added to some radios)
- Cloning. There is one radio that is programmed first, then other radios (typically they need to be the same exact manufacturer and model radio) are cloned using radio-to-radio cloning functionality and interface cable or programming software and radio-to-computer interface cable.
There are four main types of programming software. Please note that SARC takes no responsibility for the use of any of the software listed below. Please use it at your own risk.
- Software supplied by the radio manufacturer (either free or paid) see their websites below for details
- CHIRP is a free, open-source tool for programming your radio. It supports a large number of manufacturers and models, as well as provides a way to interface with multiple data sources and formats.
